Skewd Asia
Fine Dining
Skewd Asia is a theatrical Pan-Asian restaurant in North London that reimagines hospitality through fire, cultural storytelling, and immersive spatial design. Created for the multi-award-winning Turkish restaurant brand Skewd, the project draws influence from pre-Anatolian Turkic heritage and neighbouring Asian cultures, translating these references into a contemporary interior rooted in atmosphere, movement, and material expression.
Open-flame cooking became the conceptual starting point for the project, informing the mood, palette, and choreography of the interior. Flickering light, layered textures, reflective surfaces, and rich tonal contrasts combine to create an environment that feels cinematic, intimate, and alive.
At the heart of the restaurant sits a sculptural monolithic marble cocktail bar, designed as the social anchor of the space. Positioned centrally, the bar organises circulation and encourages movement around it, creating a dynamic relationship between dining, gathering, and performance. The spatial experience gradually shifts away from this theatrical core into softer, more secluded settings, culminating in an intimate VIP lounge at the rear of the restaurant.
A striking hand-painted mural created in collaboration with Chinese artist Mr Lee’ stretches across the interior. An expressive, fluid artwork that captures a 2,000-year cultural journey. Created under the narrative of “Asian With Attitude,” bringing a strong sense of rhythm and identity to the space.
Blurring the lines between art and architecture.
In collaboration with Chinese illustrator Mr Lee, a commissioned wall-hanging textile was created featuring custom embroidered artwork depicting a Chinese dragon. Set against a deep burnt-umber fabric, the piece is rendered in fluid linework and rich texture, introducing a sense of movement and quiet drama while adding depth, cultural narrative, and artisanal craftsmanship to the interior.
Layered, moody tones are paired with rich, tactile materials to create depth and warmth, while soft lighting and open flames introduce movement and theatre. The result is a space that engages all the senses; alive, expressive, and unapologetically bold.
